How does the Lyric C2 camera detect a baby crying sound?

The C2 camera comes with a functionality of detecting baby crying sounds entirely based upon what is heard by the built-in microphone in C2. The images or motions captured by the camera will not help C2 with a decision on determining if a sound is from a baby crying act or not.

In order for C2 to detect a baby crying sound from many other types of sounds occurring in common residential homes, C2 comes with a special knowledge database. It contains the audio signatures derived from different types of baby crying sounds from many babies with ages varying from 2 months to 2 years old.

The crying sounds generated by babies vary considerably in loudness and duration, depending upon their age, body weight, lung capacity, head positions, and surrounding items such as pillows they use and the cloth they wear. Drawing an invisible line between the baby’s mouth and C2, anything blocking or near the air passage between the two points will affect how the crying sound is received by the microphone in C2.
