HomeKit - Honeywell - Your Home

What is Apple HomeKit?

Apple® HomeKit™ is a common language that smart devices from any manufacturer can understand and support and then control via Siri®, the Apple voice assistant. It is a single way of managing everything, rather than using lots of apps that only do one thing, and is likely to change your home, in a good way, forever.

Take control of your devices

Total control

Because HomeKit is a single common language, one of the biggest benefits is you get to choose the best individual elements for the job rather than having to get everything from one manufacturer. Lights from one company, thermostats from another, all working together.

It also means that one smart device can act as a trigger for another. So when the sun goes down, the lights come on. Or when it gets cold outside your heating turns on automatically, and that's just the start.

Controlling your home

In the home, all you need to do is talk to Siri. There are dozens of phrases you can use, like "Film night" or "Set our home to 72 degrees" and the system creates that scene based on your settings, be that turning the lights on, putting the heating up, or locking your doors.

If you have an Apple TV® and it is logged into the same iCloud account as your phone, you don't even need to be in your home to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Yep, that even includes lowering the heat when you're away or making your home more welcoming moments before you arrive.

HomeKit is on a wide range of Apple devices

What you need

For a HomeKit-enabled device to work you will need:

  1. An Apple device like an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV.
  2. For remote access, you’ll need to have a base device, like an Apple TV, that is connected to the network and that is always on.
  3. A HomeKit-enabled device that incorporates a HomeKit chip.

You can't use HomeKit technology if:

  1. You are using an Android or Windows Phone device.
  2. You have an older non-HomeKit enabled device.
  3. You aren't able to connect to the same network the HomeKit-enabled devices are on.
Make everything work seamlessly together

Creating a scene

As we all become more demanding of our homes, HomeKit-enabled smart devices are an excellent starting block to intelligently make life more comfortable around your home.

Using HomeKit-enabled devices, you can create a scene for your home and have everything that is a part of that scene work effortlessly together, whether that's just one HomeKit-enabled device or many.

Your scene may turn the lights off, lock the doors, and set the alarm when you get into bed all on a single instruction, or open the blinds and turn on the coffee maker when you wake up. The scenes you create are up to you.

End to end security

Secure system

HomeKit technology provides advanced security with end-to-end encryption and authentication between all HomeKit-enabled accessories and your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®.

Works with Apple HomeKit

It's future proof

With HomeKit technology, you don't have to buy everything at once. Because HomeKit is a common language used by many smart devices, from heating, to lights to sensors and more, you can take it step-by-step adding to your personal system over time.

If you add new HomeKit-enabled devices in the future, it’s designed to work with the HomeKit-enabled devices you already own. That means you can easily add more smart devices to expand your possibilities further as your needs or your situation changes. It adapts to you, rather than you to it.
